Wedding Traditions

Ohh this is a fun post to write! Today, I’m going to talk about new wedding traditions! There are many, classic wedding traditions we are all familiar with. There are some wedding traditions that really just never go out of style. Some of those include:

  • First looks. The couple not seeing each other at all on the day of their wedding before the ceremony. It’s pre-ceremony private moment for a couple to see each other for the first time on their wedding day, often chosen to reduce wedding day nerves, allow for intimate emotional expression, and free up time for photos before the reception

  • Dogs as wedding guests. I’m a dog lover. I grew up with dogs. You may have them simply stand next to the groomsmen or bridesmaid, or give them a bigger role such as walking down the aisle as the ring bearer.

  • Food Stations vs. Plated Meals. Ditch the traditional sit-down dinner in favor of interactive food stations that allow guests to customize their culinary experience. Popular buffet styles include themed options like taco bars, pasta bars, BBQ buffets, or a "build-your-own" concept.

  • Anniversary dance. This is one of the special moments. During the reception where a DJ invites all married couples to the dance floor, playing a song and then gradually asking couples to sit down based on the length of their marriage, from shortest to longest, until the couple who has been married the longest remains. This is a sweet way to honor enduring marriages, with the longest-married couple often sharing wisdom with the newlyweds.

And then there’s the

  • Fathers ‘giving away’ their daughters. What a sweet way to dance with your dad to have a special daddy/daughter dance. Go check out my blog for playlist choices for dancing your dad (along with other songs for the whole night!)

  • Introducing the newlyweds at the reception

  • Dancing

  • Toasting

  • First dance.

  • Parents’ dances.

  • Bouquet toss.

  • Garter toss

  • cake cutting. You can opt this for “donut wall” or “ice cream truck station.” Or even if you want a cake for your wedding, and not big fan of the sweets, you can ask your baker to make a “half naked cake”, which is scraped off the excess frosting around the edge of the cake.
